The story of our Turkey Road Farm goes all the way back to 1808. Our founder Obediah Roquefort, of the famous cheese and dressing family, traveled to the Dakota Territory in an effort to make “goat-fort”, a goat milk Roquefort cheese tha-----

WAIT, STOP!!! THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!... this is what happens when you go with “John and Bob: The Advertising Guys”.

The truth about our home, farm, and business is this:

About 20 years ago, my wife (my inspiration and reason to live) and I moved from South Minneapolis to North Dakota, where she was born and spent her early childhood. We bought a small farmstead just outside Casselton, ND. The original property was two acres with an option to buy three more, which we did. Our home is located just north of 15th Avenue, what our local historian, Ken Habiger, said had always been called “Turkey Road”. Some folks, even today, call it that.

At the time, our lives were very different. Shannon (my wife and love of my life) provided daycare for several local families and I (Jeff, in case you were wondering) did small construction/remodeling work. Shannon is a “plant lady” and felt it would be a great idea to take our three acre purchase and plant fruits and berries on it, primarily for wine...because we like wine...alot! It turns out, however, that we are really not that good at making wine. Fast forward several years, and now Shannon runs a successful massage therapy practice, teaches classes on herbalism, and creates healthy oils, herbal concoctions, and tinctures. I (still Jeff, in case you were wondering) had to find something to do with all the berry bushes we planted, especially since they had begun to produce delicious berries!

(cue heavenly choir) “It came to me in a dream”---- STOP IT!!! YOU GUYS ARE FIRED!!!...

What really happened was, I was still in the practice of harvesting berries to make wine (that we were not very good at making), and thought: “What can I do with all this stuff??? There’s so much!!!”. And, after a couple of not-so-very-good bottles of wine between the two of us, we decided to try something completely different.  That didn’t work… I don’t want to go into it… but, it was so bad, our dog now has a service animal….

(cue hard rock music) “Then, like a bolt of lightning…” ENOUGH!!! GET OUT!!! AAUUUGGHHH!!!!!

What actually happened, was that I saw my lovely wife making all these healthy, natural remedies for her clients and realized that we had so many health-promoting berries and plants growing right outside, that could also be used to make things to help people live better lives and not taste like mud covered bark. AND I WAS RIGHT!!! Everything we grow and make (except for, possibly, our spiced wine products (but don’t bet on it)) --  are all made with the best ingredients we can grow, buy, find, or scavenge. None of our products contain refined sugar. We use only locally sourced honey to sweeten our products and, in the future, will be experimenting with other sweeteners, for our customers with special dietary needs.

Now, you may notice our labeling isn’t like all the other kids’ stuff. That’s because we’re not terribly serious people. We believe that food should be fun! We think life should be enjoyed and that taking oneself too seriously is what gives so many people cancer, hair loss, indigestion, and hang-nails. We don’t want to be those people, and we don’t think you really do either… let’s face it, hang-nails suck! So, try a jar of “Smokin’ Hot Redhead” jelly to put on crackers or, maybe a bottle of “Maui Owie” syrup to spice up your vodka tonic. Really, there are very few things you can’t put our products in or on, to make them even better! Disclaimer: There are SOME things you should ABSOLUTELY NOT, EVER, put our spicier jellies and syrups on… think about it…
